Research and Development Business Unit Friction Additives
Functional Additives for Brake Pads and Clutch Linings
Friction stabilizers of Chemetall help meeting the stringent requirements on brake and clutch linings in terms of wear and comfort. In our brake lining shop, brake pads of a wide range of dimensions and compositions are manufactured with functional additives of Chemetall using state-of-the-art mixers, presses and curing ovens. The test programs of two high-performance dynamometers are based on global standards or specific customer requests. Level and stability of the friction coefficient and the wear of disc and pad are the valuation criteria for newly developed additives.
Business Unit Lubricant Additives
Solid Lubricants for Greases, Pastes, Oils and Bonded Lubricants
Greases, lubricating pastes, oils and bonded lubricants contain solid lubricants such as graphite or molybdenum sulfide in many cases. Chemetall has developed new solid lubricant systems the tribological characteristics of which are tested in our department R & D. The most important evaluation criteria are low friction coefficient, low wear and high load carrying capacity.
Business Unit Abrasive Additives
Functional Additives for Cut-Off and Grinding Wheels
Cut-off and grinding wheels are not only employed in the private sphere, but especially industrially. Active fillers of Chemetall increase the service life and improve the cutting capacity of cut-off and grinding wheels. In our shop we produce resin bonded cut-off wheels with our additives in modern mixers, a high-performance four-column press and a programmable curing oven. Testing takes place on a fully automatic test stand at constant circumferential speed and cutting rate. Newly developed additives are evaluated according to the criteria of wheel life and clean cut of cut-off wheels.

Chipping Aids for Powder Metallurgy
Sintered parts must be mechanically finished in many cases. The tools employed for this purpose are subject to rapid wear. Chipping aids incorporated in the work piece reduce the wear and allow efficient tooling. Our chipping test stand serves to assess the effectiveness of newly developed chipping aids. The evaluation criteria are drilling time, drill wear and the mechanical properties of the sintered part.
